Pioneer Linens is proud to carry the Julia Baillie collection of hand towels. One of the collections featured by Jacaranda Living, these South African hand-appliqued linens boast many artful and amusing patterns. There are five themes that resonate through the collection, Men’s and Ladies' sports, Winter people, Bathers and Beach, Dinner Date and miscellaneous ladies. Although there are different themes, the collection is held together because all the characters are reminiscent of the 1920’s art.

Jacaranda Living

One gold-hearted woman has exposed the world to the many beautiful talents of the Zulu women in Africa. Cathy Deale, the creator of Jacaranda living, was born in South Africa and lived there for a great portion of her life. During her time spent among the peoples of Kwa Zulu Natal coastline, Deale witnessed the amazing flair for creating handcrafted linens and gifts that the local women possessed. Deale saw the hardships and poverty suffered in Africa first hand. She decided to take it upon herself to help out an area ravaged by AIDS, enlisting local Zulu women to come to the rescue of themselves and their community. For the company’s name, Deale chose to pay homage to her homeland by using the name of a stunning tree that grows there, the Jacaranda tree.

Handmade Linen hand Towels

In an October 2004 article in LDB interior textiles Deale said, “”I moved to the U.S. seven years ago because my husband came here for business, and I thought there were so many beautiful, handmade things made in South Africa that I was sure could do well here. My sister owns a shop in Cape Town, and I liked the idea of supporting the women there that do the embroidery work on these products.” According to the company’s website, all of the sales help to support the people who created the products.
