Hand-crafted decoupage dates back to 12th century China, achieving popularity in Europe in the late 1600s. More recently it has been practiced by Picasso, Matisse, and since 1998, San Francisco designer Annie Modica. Built from sturdy wood into durable furnishings, each wastebasket and tissue cover then has an inspired design applied to it before being covered with a hand-mixed resin. Annie Modica has been praised for the uniqueness and color in her designs, and the quality and usability of her products.
