Manuel Canovas
Manuel Canovas showed an interest in drawing and the use of color from an early age. His passionate interest in botany was encouraged by his father, a printer and author, who guided his studies in that direction. With formal training at the "Beaux-Arts de Paris" and the "Beaux-Arts de Rome" where he studied architecture, painting, drawing and archaeology, he set up his own company to produce decorative fabrics and wall coverings.
His love of textiles and knowledge of painting and weaving techniques are evident in his design, as his ability to combine the precisions of a draughtsman with the instinct of a colorist. His style developed over the years and he became renowned world-wide for his beautiful colors, unique floral and luxurious weaves.
Today, the House of Manuel Canovas is part of the English fabric company and interior decorating firm, Colefax and Fowler. Each new collection continues the spirit and design philosophy of its founder Manuel Canovas, yet also offers new innovative textures and colors.
